Patients who have extensive plaque buildup, can benefit from a deep dental cleaning. Deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) reaches deep beneath your gum line to flush out bacteria and hardened tartar around your teeth roots. Our hygienist will use a vibrating ultrasonic scaler and scraping device to perform the scaling process.

Our hygienist may also perform root planing on the roots of your teeth that sit below your gum line. A tool is used to gently push aside your gum tissue and expose the surface of the roots and uses the same tooth scaling tools to chip tartar from the roots, making them smooth. Sometimes, an antibiotic medication injected directly into any gum pockets.

Bacteria and plaque are less likely to stick to the smooth surfaces of your treated teeth. Inflammation decreases as your gums heal and reattach to the smoothed tooth roots. Back to Services
